Prize

The Leodis Prize is a bold initiative to spotlight previously unrepresented writers.

A major new opportunity for aspiring playwrights. No other theatre award in the UK offers representation, full production and publication.

Leodis will produce the winning entry at Fringe 2026 alongside Pleasance, and the play will be published by Methuen Drama, as well as offering a £2000 cash prize to help the writer develop the play.

In your submission, please include:

· Full play
· Synopsis of play
· Example of writing (e.g. a scene from the play)

Entries are now open, and close on 2 November 2025.

Guidelines

We welcome all scripts submissions for this award and are not setting strict criteria relating to numbers of characters, form, structure and length in order to allow writers the freedom to submit a script as they intend it to be presented.

However it is worth bearing in mind that the premier of this work will take place in Edinburgh at the Fringe, the challenges of which has a tendency to shape the work that is presented for better or worse. Edinburgh Fringe audiences have come to expect shows around 60–70 minutes in length without an interval, but we have presented vastly longer and shorter pieces in the past — we will always look at ways that we can facilitate longer or more ambitious work and meet the challenges that they pose.

Due to the rising costs of producing work, there has been a trend toward solo shows and monologues; we are keen through investments in shows via initiatives like this to provide a stage for dialogue and plays with larger casts, but monologues and solo shows are also welcome.
