DIRECTOR & WRITER
Imogen Frances (They/She) is an AFAB gender fluid queer director, playwright, poet & intimacy director.
As a director Imogen’s Offie nominated production of Paul Bradshaw’s tell me straight won The Standing Ovation Award for Black Box Theatre in 2022. Imogen is currently one of the core visiting acting tutors, directors & intimacy directors at Rose Bruford College, having staged productions of Yerma, The Crucible, Three Sisters, Spring Awakening & A Rocket to The Moon. Imogen, alongside Raymi Ortuste Quiroga, helped to design the first year Actor & Actor Musician curriculum in Acting (with a focus on Meisner & Stanislavski).
This year Imogen’s play ; (pause before continuing) was longlisted for the RSC’s 37 Plays Award. Imogen was also commissioned by Rose Bruford College, alongside fellow Soundcheck Creative Tanya Bridgeman, to adapt Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet into a contemporary spoken word piece. They wrote and created Star Cross’d, which Imogen directed & intimacy directed. Later this year a professional R&D for Star Cross’d will take place, with the aim of a staged production in 2024/25. Imogen & Tanya are currently looking for venues and producing partners.
As a poet Imogen has been published in Hidden in Chaos by Chris Thorpe & Trope. Imogen’s collection of poems 1.6 on Survival & Resilience created to raise money for Women’s Aid was described by Novelist Kate Mosse as:
